Tyler Morgan, an 11-year-old boy from Orem, UT, is in critical condition with burns covering over 25% of his body. He was admitted to University Hospital on August 11th after playing with his friends took a dangerous and unexpected turn.
Morgan was with a group of 5 or 6 friends playing at a local elementary school when they decided to tie Morgan to a pole using toilet paper. The boys then made a “wrestling ring” around Morgan using poles and more toilet paper, a strand of which one of the boys set on fire.
Unfortunately, the boys (aged 8-11) did not realize how quickly the fire would spread and the boys were unable to extinguish the fire before Morgan sustained severe burns. The boys tried to stamp out the fire themselves, but when they realized the severity of the situation, one of them ran to Morgan’s house, located nearby, to get his father.
His father took him to Orem Community Hospital, after which Morgan was flown by helicopter to University Hospital because of the extent of his injuries.
